I am wondering if anyone has tried travelling to an all inclusive resort with a baby?

I have heard that some people do this, but I am very confused how?

Do you just take a whole luggage bag full of diapers with you? Do you have to take all the baby food?

    Lots of questions....

    Hi Anna,

We have a blog on this topic with some great tips. I travelled with Katelyn a few times to all inclusives.  In the comment section be sure to read the other tips from another mom who travelled with her infant.

When you get back be sure to post anything you found useful that will help other parents when they travel with their little ones.

    Hi Anna

We just returned from Dominican 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old Julian and it was wonderful!  The resort was all inclusive.  We brought a playpen for him to sleep at night.  During Julian's daytime naps, he was confortable sleeping in the stroller on the beach or at the pool.  I did see a couple beach tents for infants which were quite nice and easy to transport.  I think I overpacked because the weather was extremely hot and Julian wore onesy's most of the time.  I also brought more diapers than I needed and way too many food jars than I used.  I brought about 30 jars, plus 2 boxes of cereal.  I fed Julian fresh fruit from the buffet, but that's about all I limited the buffet for him.  As for his water in take, the resort supplies you with filtered water, and Julian was ok with that.  Make sure baby is always hydrated with water!

We brought Julian in the ocean and swimming pool and he enjoyed it!  Just make sure to rince after taking them from the pool.

For Julian's baths, we didn't place him in the tub, however, either myself or dad showered with him, while the other washed him down.

My suggestion, pack light and make sure you travel with baby Advil or Tempra; a thermometre; at least 3 hats (not caps) but ones which provide shade to baby's ears and neck; light blankets; beach blanket so baby can sit in sand; and diaper rash cream.

Our experience with our infant down south was terrific!  The locals absolutely love babies - they were extremely friendly and accommodating to families with small children!

Hope this offers some comfort level regarding travel.

    Jennifer

I was also thinking of taking Leia down south sometime end of Feb. So thanks for asking this question... To further the inquiry I was wondering if anyone has used the resorts child care, or babysitters at night to have some pure ADULT time? How did you manage on the flight and what did you take on board with you? Any help would be a blessing.

    Hi,

we travelled to Cuba on November and had a great time. Our daughter is technically not a baby anymore :(   SHe was 19 months old when we travelled, so our toddler had lots of fun down south.  We did have a hard time in the plane onthe way there, she sat on my lap but was very fussy. I would recommend a dvd player so your baby can watch a video, that definetely helped us for a whole 20 minutes!!..  I also took a couple of toys for her to play on the plane and that helped a little as well.. Bring your own food as the airline will not give you an extra meal, unless you're paying for an extra seat for your baby/toddler.

As far as packing, we had a crib in the room so we didn't need to bring a playpen. We packed lots of diapers (too many I think), tylenol, a thermometer, hats, sunscreen, a light sweater, some tupperware containers (to take some fruit/veggies from the buffet for in-between meal snacks), sippy cups and also lots of snacks. We found that the buffet schedules didn't quite match with our daughter meal schedules, so we would give her snacks (dried fruit, crackers) in between.  I also took our own milk (froze it the night before and packed it in a thermal bag in our luggage - I also took some cheese strings, and yogurts). I was afraid of how she would react to a different kind of milk (!).  They checked our bags when we got there, but after I explained why I was bringing it, they didn't have a problem with it, but told me that they had to check anyway.. they were very friendly there..  Resort and airport staff are very friendly to families with small children!

As for "adult' time, didn't really get much of it!  We didn't use the available babysitting services, but it was ok, we had a balcony in our room and we would just stay out in the balcony having a coffee while our daughter slept in her crib.

anyway, have fun in your trip. You will be surprised how our babies just know that they are on vacation too and adjust very well!

Can anyone who has travelled to Mexico let me know if they required car seats down there.  We travelled with my oldest when she was 6 months on a cruise, lugged her car seat down with us, and they NEVER wanted us to use it, even in Florida the taxi driver just told me to hold her on my lap.  I'm assuming in Mexico it's the same....anyone with experience?

    Hi Debbie,

We travelled with Katelyn to Mexico when she was 18 months and they didn't require us to use a carseat.  If you rent a car, you can request one that has a carseat in it already.

However for the taxi, bus or other mexican transportation the law doesn't require you to ues a carseat.

I'm definitely interested in heading south. I'd be tempted to bring my mother to look after Matthew. I'd also bring all my own food and drink for him (don't need the poor baby getting diarhea LOL). AT least some destinations have a shorter flying time like Cuba.

We travelled to Cuba 3 weeks ago with our 4 month old daugther.  I was worried about the plane ride and the effects that the pressure would have on her little ears, but there wasn't a problem.  I brought my nursing pilow on board with me and I nursed her on the way up and down and during the flight, I was lucky...she slept.

In terms of sleeping arrangements, I contacted the resort ahead of time to ensure that we had a crib in our room and Sofia slept in it without a problem.

We brought our stroller down to Cuba with us, just so that I didn't have to carry her every where.  It was definitely worth it!  She slept in it by the pool and it soothed her to be pushed around in it.

As for items to pack...I packed way too much stuff.  I was good with the diapers and wipes, I didn't over do it, but realistically, I brought too many outfits and diaper shirts for her.  She had more clothes than I did.  We didn't get the opportunity to take her into the water, because unfortunately, it was colder than normal in Cuba.

We definitely will be travelling with her again in the future, and hopefully it'll be more of a restful vacation next time.  One thing to keep in mind however, expect your child's pattern (if he/she has one) to be thrown off schedule while you're away and for about a week when you return.
