I thought I'd share a possible tip - if it is that at all - with some moms who might be struggling with increasing their natural milk supply, from my somewhat strange experience... I've weaned my son completely last November (at 25 months old), although it took 3 months for the actual milk to disappear, by February or so... and then very strangely - at least to me, although not to my doctor apparently - I've gone through painful episodes where, if I didn't know this from past breast-feeding experience, it felt like I was feeling the milk come in again, about 2-3 weeks ago. (engorging and everything!) I was shocked when I was actually able to express some milk!!! (No, I am not pregnant.)
Anyway, my doctor said that while it is unusual, it's not unheard of, for moms who breast fed longer (and had larger milk supplies originally - my poor guy used to choke on it initially...), to re-start lactating periodically, throughout their life... and that, most importantly, some things may act as 'stimulants', such as increased caffeine intake (???), and higher-fat foods... I did consume somewhat more caffeine around that time, and while not necessarily eating more 'fatty foods' (as in bad-fats/junk foods), i did start nibbling on my son's nut snacks (addictive!!!), specifically almonds, hazelnuts, and cashews, which are higher in fats (but good fats).
So, in addition to all the other possible tips/supplements, that are theorized to help increase milk supply, I'm posting this as a possible 'stimulant' for milk supply... caffeine and/or good-fats from nuts?
Anyway, as much as I loved breast-feeding my son, and was sad when it was finished (for the benefit of his night sleeping, as he was still waking up around 5am for a feeding, before going back to sleep... the weaning story itself was amazing, and he literally started sleeping through entire 11-hour night that very same night.), I do hope this strange 'return of the dairy' will disappear soon...
Good luck moms.
