Dream Feeding 10 month old?

I need advice/help.  Should I still be dream feeding my 10 month old.  My husband usually feeds the dream feed before going to bed around 11:30pm.  Gavin is sometimes up and waiting for him.  I feel like it may have become a bad habit.  He would sleep till about 7:00am.  Recently, he has been waking up anywhere from 5:30 am to 6:00 am.  He will not go back to sleep after this point.  I keep him in his crib always till 6:30 after trying to feed him, praying that he will fall back to sleep.  Never happens :( !!!!  I know at this age they say your baby should be sleeping the night.  Should I be taking this 11:30 bottle away?  Should I limit the length of his naps?  Morning is usually 1.5 hrs and afternoon the same or slightly less.  Some days he will sleep a little more or less.  I just feel exhausted and won't mind some suggestions.  I always thought I would be starting to think about having #2 soon but I can't even imagine dealing with another anymore.  I think we may be a 1 baby family.

I presume Gavin is your baby - if he's up and waiting for the bottle, then I don't think it's considered a "dream feed" any longer! It definitely sounds like a new bad habit. Does he eat well during daytime meals (solid foods)? If I remember correctly, most of the baby sleep books say that if you stop feeding during the night, your baby will just make up for it by eating more during the day.

I don't have much else to contribute but perhaps some cold comfort. My 22 month old still doesn't sleep through the night - though this is because we co-sleep and are still breastfeeding. She goes to sleep fine on her own but inevitably wakes up just before 1am to nurse (argh less than half an hour after I come to bed and just after I've fallen asleep!)

Check with your paediatrician to be sure but I was told that  "sleeping the night" means that your baby sleeps for 5 or 6 hours consecutively without waking up. If this still holds true then Gavin is doing just fine. Plus, if he sleeps for 2-3 hours during the day, that's great.  He is doing far better than most babies who have real sleep problems. Count your blessings. Every child is different and so expectations cannot be the same across the board. To make things even more interesting, each child adjusts his/her rhythm periodically and so every 6 or so months they change their habits.  As they grow older, they require more food more frequently, and definitely  more interaction.  Parents have to recognize the change in patterns and go with the flow. They are "little people" finding their own way, their own likes and dislikes. Enjoy the journey with Gavin.
