Mama Matters - Perinatal Mental Health

In a world where new parenthood is often portrayed as purely joyful and instinctive, many mothers find themselves silently struggling beneath the weight of unrealistic expectations, emotional overwhelm, and the invisible load of caregiving. "Mama Matters" is a compassionate and informative presentation designed to shine a light on perinatal mental health and remind mothers that their well-being matters, deeply and unapologetically.

This session creates space for honest conversations about the mental and emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It acknowledges that while becoming a parent is life-changing in beautiful ways, it can also bring about anxiety, depression, identity shifts, and a profound sense of isolation.

Through gentle storytelling, clinical insights, and practical guidance, participants will learn how to recognize signs of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, reduce stigma, and explore ways to seek support for themselves or others. The presentation emphasizes that mental health is not a luxury for mothers, it is a foundation for the entire family’s well-being.

Participants will leave with:

  • A better understanding of perinatal mental health and why it matters
  • Language to talk openly about emotional struggles without shame
  • Resources for accessing professional help and building supportive networks
  • Validation that struggling does not mean failing, and that no one is meant to do this alone

A reminder that taking care of yourself is not selfish, it is essential, and that being a good mother starts with being a cared-for human.

We look forward to seeing you,
Debbie
