H1N1 Flu Vaccine: What's Your Take?

Thursday, October 01, 2009 3:21 PM | Joanna

The fall season is upon us which for many of us moms, also means the return of the flu season. And of course, everyone (well, almost everyone) is starting to be worried sick about their children potentially getting sick with the H1N1 flu virus (or swine flu). A couple of my mommy friends have asked me "I'm thinking of vaccinating my child against the swine flu? What do you think". I cringe when I hear this because I personally believe that this vaccine is potentially dangerous. But such health matters are a personal decision and you, as a parent, need to be comfortable about your decision. I've said the same about standard immunizations. I do encourage parents to read other arguments and do their research. I've listed some sources below. Read, listen, and what you do with the knowledge and how you let this new information influence your decisions is up to you.

In the U.S., I know that certain states will make vaccination mandatory. And in both the U.S. and Canada, certain groups (such as health care workers) will be required to be vaccinated. As well,  pregnant women and young children are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible. As an expecting mom, I am thankful that I live in Canada. But still, you never know. I hope and pray that H1N1 vaccination does not become mandatory for us.

What's your opinion? Will you vaccinate yourself or your children? Feel free to leave a comment here or start your own conversation in our forums.

ARGUMENTS FOR THE VACCINE:

Interview with Dr. Ann Schuchat from the CDC

Chief Science Officer Dr. Anne Schuchat answers parents’ questions about the 2009 H1N1 flu and the vaccine to protect against it. Children aged six months through 24 years are recommended to receive H1N1 flu vaccine.

This mother posted some info she found on the CDC and from her pediatrician.

ARGUMENTS AGAINST TAKING THE VACCINE:

What To Do if You are Forced to Take Swine Flu Shot

Interviews with Dr. Russell Blaylock, a retired neurosurgeon who speaks of the dangers of the H1N1 vaccine.

Warning: Swine Flu Shot Linked to Killer Nerve Disease

In this article: A warning that the swine flu vaccine has been linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the UK Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.

The letter refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:

  • More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu
  • The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times
  • The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear
  • The U.S. Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected

Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown.

Flu Vaccine Exposed

Perspective: Studies show that flu vaccines are unsafe and ineffective.

This presentation by the Thinktwice Global Vaccine Institute includes a visual depiction of flu vaccine production -- how the flu vaccine is made and what it contains.

      Hi,
I have 2 months old and 2 1/2 year old.....and I really don't know what to do. I'm right on the fence. Looking through the internet doesn't really help! You can pretty much find enough valuable information "for" & "against" the vaccine...so where does this leave us? I spoke to my family doctor (based on previous experience, I really value her opinion)about it and she wasn't exactly "for" it.....so I'm really-really confused now. My husband is starting to panic a bit. He told me that he thinks we should get vaccinated since we have 2 little munchkins in our care. I want to scream!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what to think anymore, but hearing of all these young kids dieing is scary!

Children 6 months to 5 years are those who are eligible for the vaccine currently. However parents/caregivers for children less than 6 months are in the group who can currently receive the vaccine as well. The choices we make related health are personal ones, and of course we all try to make educated decisions. I am also someone who is cautious when it comes to vaccinations and my children, but I also believe in prevention of illness. With the flu (seasonal or H1NI) one must weigh the risk-benefit when deciding on the vaccine. Despite our best efforts many of us will contract the H1N1 this flu season, and I do not wish my family to be one of those tragic cases. I am also aware that the availability of pediatic tamiflu is in short supply. I will be vaccinating my 7 month old, 3year old... as well as myself & my husband.

A Natural Solution to the Swine Flu Vaccine

Over the past few weeks, people have been discussing, often with great fear and apprehension, the latest flu strain that is upon us. They are understandably concerned with protecting their children and family, but are unsure and a little hesitant of the unknown side effects of the mainstream flu vaccine. It may surprise you and even ease your mind to know that Homeopathy offers a natural and highly effective alternative to the flu vaccine, one that has been used with over 98% efficacy in the 1918 flu epidemic and in each other flu outbreak since then.

Here are some other facts that may interest you regarding the recent flu:
        • There is a new Canadian study that suggests those who have gotten seasonal influenza vaccines in the past may be at greater risk of contracting the H1N1 swine flu
        • Officials persist in telling the public that this H1N1 strain of influenza is quite dangerous, but this is in direct conflict and contrary to the experience of those in the southern hemisphere who just finished their flu season
        • The surgeon general and other health officials can’t realistically claim that the vaccination is safe or that it has been thoroughly tested because it only has been tested for a few weeks and its affects on children are greatly unknown
        • Some of the new H1N1 vaccines are made in human retina cells and contain MF59, a potentially debilitating adjuvant. MF-59 is an oil based adjuvant primarily composed of squalene that has left rats injected with this substance crippled and paralyzed. It can also cause severe arthritis and sever immune responses, such as autoimmune arthritis and lupus
        • The flu vaccine of 1976 was associated with more deaths from the vaccine than from the flu itself. The vaccine may have triggered a condition which affects the lining of the nerves known as GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) which can cause paralysis, difficulty breathing and can be fatal. This vaccine was retracted after only 10 weeks
        • The majority of the mortality cases associated with the flu are caused by secondary infections such as pneumonia, and are usually caused by compromised immune systems or pre-existing health issues
        • The symptoms of the 1918 flu and the so called ‘swine flu’ of 2009 are very similar. It is interesting to note that both started in the spring, in the month of April, rather than in the regular flu season, which is autumn
        • Many people born before 1950 likely have antibodies to the new H1N1 influenza and are naturally protected; and this was before vaccines were available

The answer in all this of course, is that vaccines do not offer long term immunity. Natural immunity is what you gain when you recover from influenza naturally. And it is no different with this flu outbreak. If 99.9% of people are not contracting any serious complications from the infection, it would seem perfectly rational to believe that minor lifestyle changes could have dramatic effects on fighting this flu, and none of them involve taking potentially dangerous and unproven vaccine interventions. Simply keeping a healthy immune system is the best prevention to any disease, and the steps in any prevention protocol should always focus on nutrition, exercise, reduction or elimination of sugar and processed foods and good, restful sleep. Some minerals and vitamins that can help with prevention include vitamin D, zinc, vitamin C, astragalus, oil of oregano and of course all of the antioxidants that are found in fresh, raw fruits and vegetables.

What does Homeopathic Medicine have to offer? Homeopathy offers a natural prevention to seasonal flu including the H1N1 swine flu. It is very inexpensive, completely safe and free of any side effects, extremely easy to take and works to combat the flu while strengthening your immune system, thereby decreasing your susceptibility and increasing your resistance to the flu as well as other secondary infections and diseases. What’s more, unlike regular flu inoculations which bypass the important first phase of the immune system by ignoring the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat and going directly into the bloodstream, the Homeopathic flu prevention remedy is taken orally and therefore enters directly into the body through the correct immune pathways.

So, if want to keep your family healthy over the flu season, but are weary of getting them inoculated with the H1N1 flu inoculation and are interested in a safer and effective alternative, feel free to contact me regarding a homeopathic flu prevention protocol and/or any questions about the options that you may have. Keeping your family healthy now and thinking about the longer term by keeping their immune systems strong into the future is a great way to live a life of health and wellness.

Please do your research on the risks of this vaccine which is greater than the virus itself. Start with this website (one of the first to pop up on google search) http://preventdisease.com/news/09/080709_swine_flu_hype.shtml
Make sure to listen to the interviews under the article.
This new hype about the swine flu is pure social manipulation of the population - bluntly put eugenics. Sorry, but there is no nicer way to put it. Many scientists and doctors are admiting to not vaccinating themselves because of the potential risks they know the vaccine contains (H5N1 virus, squalene, etc). Our safest bet, as in all types of diseases, is prevention - proper hygiene, stay home if your sick, etc. and a lot of common sense.

Here is a link to Health Canada website. If you still haven't made up your mind about what to do here is something worth reading: Considering the Options - Getting the flu versus getting a vaccine or taking an antiviral.
    Hope this helps!

If You do decide to give your child(ren) the vaccine, check the dose to make sure it's correct.
11 kids were given a double dose by accident in Brampton. Don't take any chances.
