    Hi Claire

We also use cloth with our little guy but have opted for a diaper service. (We use comfy cotton in York Region). It is well worth it, and not nearly as expensive as I had thought. They deliver fresh inserts once a week and pick up the old bag. You can buy a diaper pail (20 bucks) from them with a carbon insert that keeps the smell away (sort of :-) and their diaper covers (Bummis) are the cheapest I have found anywhere - you need about 5 or 6. The service works out to about 17 dollars a week. It is super easy and the cloth is so much nicer on his little bum, for boys especially.

    Good luck!

We used the cloth diaper since he's one month old.  In the beginning, we used the Chinese cotton prefold one.  I loved it as they absoluted very well and not hard to wash.  Especially if you are breastfeeding.  Then now of days we used the pocket diaper and I will put the liner on top for his poop.

For the washing diaper: we only wash them twice a week, as I used the dry pail method.

We use Sweet Peach prefitted diapers.  (We are also using their service, but, we've washed the diapers ourselves while on vacation.)

I switched to Rock-n-Green detergent for our diaper covers and found that it was so great that I now do all of our laundry with it.

Anything with poop on it gets a cold rinse, then a soak (for 20+ min) with RnG in hot water then washed from there (no more detergent needed).

I don't have any staining problems, I don't need any diaper creams and I clean his bum with water on cotton cloths and nothing else.

No diaper rashes at all since we went to this routine after horrible ones when he was in the hospital with supposedly special creams and diapers.

    Hi there,

We use GreenMountain prefolds with thirsties and Bummis covers.

I would recommend not using a diaper pail, as depending the how much liquid you put in, it could be a drowning hazard. We use a large PlanetWise wet/dry bag. I keep my prefolds in there for 4 days and then wash them and the bag. Also, the bags come in lots of great colors and hang nicely on a door knob. When zipped closed the bag does not smell at all. I purchased mine from caterpillar baby - about $30.

    Happy cloth diapering!

    Lydia
