I would also be interested in learning how to sew a cotton blanket.  They are hard to find!

    Hi Sarah, Kim and Claire,

My organic cotton blankets (one for summer and one for winter) are very plain and basic, just to warn you in advance. May be I will bring them to the Tuesday morning Richmond Hill Church Playgroup next time for you to have a look.

You can actually see a bit of the winter organic cotton blanket on my blog here:

    Hey Darmeen,
I love it!  I would really like to learn to make one if you have the time :-)  I would be so proud to show Katelyn something that I actually made for her.  Yes bring it on Tuesday!

    Kim:
I can sew a blanket for your little one but I think you should look at my blanket before you decide if you want a similar one. Do you go to the Tuesday Richmond Hill Community church playgroup?

There are lots of online places that you can buy organic fabrics from. I tried to find them at my local Fabricland store but unfortunately they are not with the 'organic' movement yet. :-)

I used to buy them at Wazoodle but I'm not happy with their services recently. So I'm not recommending that online store. May be you will have better luck with them (although I have heard others who are not satisfied with them lately).

To sew them, there are lots of online tutorials for basic sewing as well (YouTube, HowTo, etc). A simple sewing machine will make the job faster, but not necessary. I used to sew dresses without a sewing machine for a while before buying a used one.

You can easily customize your blanket by buying little iron-on letters or teddy bear appliques at the fabric store and iron them onto your blanket. Go to the fabric stores and ask the staff there for advice. They are usually expert sewers and will be eager to offer advice and recommendations.

Let me know how yours go!! :-)
