In October we are supposed to be going to Calgary for my BIL's wedding, I however am TERRIFIED of flying and would rather sit in the car for 3 days or whatever it takes...my son however...not so impressed with the car seat for long periods at a time. We are considering the train but its very expensive to get a sleeper cabin, has anyone driven, or taken the train long distances with a toddler???

YIKES! I feel your pain for sure! I not terrified of flying, but i'm super stressed out about travelling with my little one.  He'll be 11 months when we fly to calgary (coincidence) and i'll be there for a few weeks so the in laws can meet him and have their fill!!!

Jacob is great staying on his schedule, but i just know they aren't going to respect his nap times/bed times/ ect....

There is SO much to pack and i have to fly back alone because my husband will be back at work. Uggggg.......I'll need a vacation from the "vacation"...

Unfortunately my inlaws live here...with the exception of the brother who is getting married. My in laws were very hard to deal with about nap times..I always got the "it wont kill him to go down late/early" or "he can just nap in the car" or whatever else they could think of. You just have to be firm that he has a schedule and you dont break it for yourself let alone anyone else. Make sure your hubby is on board BEFORE you go and that hes gonna back you up when his parents balk about how its their only chance to see him. Besides..if hes grumpy it wont be fun for him or anyone else. U know r baby best...dont let them make u think otherwise!

I would like to know how to travel with my 16 month old too!

We took him to Niagara Falls one Saturday. He was well fed and his diaper was clean. But he screamed/cried throughout the whole car ride! On the way back, I fed him lunch first, hoping that he would fall asleep in the car -- but no luck! Screamed/cried again! The ride was only 1.5 hours but our nerves were really frayed by the time we got home. I guess he doesn't want to sleep in the car anymore.

My hubby downloaded some Pocoyo episodes onto his Blackberry for my son to watch during the ride. He watched may be 2 of them (a total of 14 min) and got bored of them. So the crying/screaming resumed.

    Anyone have better suggestions?

I cant really help you but I wanted to share...we did the Niagra Falls trip last Fall and Riley did the same thing...we ended up singing the wheels on the bus a million times to keep him from screaming!

Took my 16 mt daughter to Picton for 3 days. She was OK on the drive, but cried every time we went into the heated pool...turns out she had salmonella!!!
